Rabby is a browser extension wallet designed specifically for Ethereum DeFi power users. It's developed by DeBank and has become the preferred wallet for serious Ethereum DeFi participants who find MetaMask insufficient.
Why Rabby Over MetaMask
Transaction simulation: Before you sign any transaction, Rabby simulates it and shows you exactly what will happen — which tokens will leave your wallet, which will arrive, and any approvals being granted. This is the single most important security feature a DeFi wallet can have.
MetaMask shows you raw transaction data. Rabby shows you the outcome in plain English.
Pre-sign security checks: Rabby flags dangerous transactions — phishing contracts, drainer patterns, suspicious approvals — before you sign.
Auto network switching: Rabby detects which chain a dApp needs and switches automatically. MetaMask requires manual network selection.
Multi-chain by default: Rabby displays your portfolio across all EVM chains simultaneously. You see your ETH, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon balances in one view.
Approval management: Rabby has a built-in token approval manager. See every approval you've granted across all chains and revoke them in one place — no need for third-party sites like Revoke.cash.
Security Features
Phishing detection: Rabby checks URLs against a constantly updated phishing list. Known malicious sites get a red warning before you connect.
Contract verification: Rabby shows whether a contract is verified on Etherscan. Unverified contracts get a warning.
Pre-transaction value loss check: If a transaction would result in net value loss (you send more than you receive), Rabby explicitly warns you.
Hardware wallet integration: Rabby supports Ledger and Trezor hardware wallets. You can use Rabby's security features while keeping keys on your hardware wallet.
Rabby vs MetaMask vs Phantom
| Feature | Rabby | MetaMask | Phantom | |---------|-------|---------|---------| | Chains | EVM only | EVM only | Solana + EVM | | Tx simulation | Yes | Limited | Yes (Solana) | | Phishing detection | Yes | Basic | Yes | | Approval manager | Built-in | No | No | | Mobile app | Yes (iOS/Android) | Yes | Yes | | Portfolio view | Multi-chain | Single chain | Solana + basic EVM |
Rabby is the best choice for Ethereum/EVM DeFi. Phantom remains the best for Solana-native users.
How to Install Rabby
- Go to rabby.io and download the Chrome/Brave/Firefox extension
- Create a new wallet (save seed phrase securely) or import existing (enter seed phrase or connect hardware wallet)
- Set a password for the extension
- Browse DeFi as normal — Rabby replaces MetaMask as your default injected wallet
Migrating from MetaMask: If you have assets in a MetaMask wallet, import the same seed phrase into Rabby. You don't need to move funds — your addresses are the same. You can run both extensions but only one can be the default.
Managing Token Approvals
One of Rabby's most useful features:
- Open Rabby extension → Approvals tab
- See every token approval you've ever granted, across all EVM chains
- Click Revoke next to any approval you no longer need or don't recognize
- Confirm the revocation transaction
Regular approval audits are a critical security practice. Old approvals to deprecated or compromised protocols are a common exploit vector.
